Definitions of failure allow too much

Relationships, moving places, starting a new hobby, and more – there are times when the definitions of success and failure are too heavy to fail entirely.

Fear of failure is a common thread in many of our experiences. But what if we defined “success” a little differently to authentically recognize what we gained from an experience?

For example, fear of failure in starting your own business, especially when it’s related to a skill you’re well-established and know you’re passionate about. If you don’t make a profit, that experience is automatically set to fail. But should it? How about success without wondering if you should have followed that dream? Perhaps learning about the success of a method that didn’t work but can inform future pursuits so you choose a method that does work? How about the success of listening to your own will over your faith in relation to what is supposed to be? It’s supposed to be someone who plays it safe. Being someone who does what others expect of them. Be the one to listen to “good sense” instead of provoking them.

Relationships, moving places, starting a new hobby, and more – there are times when the definitions of success and failure are too heavy to fail entirely. I think sometimes your fear can be a compass. The things you fear the most can be your greatest opportunities to explore yourself and who you are capable of becoming. Maybe the pursuit isn’t driving the fear, but the fear of failure is driving the fear of taking that leap.

I lost loved ones. I think we both want each other to live a life of freedom and authenticity rather than play it too safe. I am inspired by how many lives within a life I see in someone’s life. And I think they will allow me to pursue it for myself in my own way. And so it can be true for you too – I believe that true love and affection for someone makes room for expansion and uncertainty. If you leave and follow a dream, there is uncertainty that you may return home or to a relationship as a different person with more maturity and greater perspective. But I think if someone loves you, they’ll make room for a wider version of you beyond what they know.

Don’t be afraid to learn lessons that may hurt a little but will stretch you in powerful ways that will prepare you for that right opportunity when it comes. You are going to be fine. You got this!
