The 20-year wait for the sequel to the premiere did not disappoint.
The Devil Wars Part 2Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, the same director who directed the original The Devil Wears PradaDavid Frankel, a true sequel that allows each character to evolve. And you see that evolution not only in their life choices and career moves, but you see it in their fashion as well.
Molly Rogers is the costume designer, and in fact, her name is included in the opening credits, something you don’t often see in movies. But we know, this film is about fashion. So it would be weird not having her because we don’t have a show without clothes. If you know Molly Rogers, you already know that she was its costume director And just like that, And he worked under Patricia Fields Sex and the City And again under Patricia Fields for first The Devil Wears Prada.
I look forward to watching this film again, simply to see all the fashion. But I have to say, not to compare, but rather that this second film deepens the four characters, mainly Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep. And yes, even Emily Blunt’s character as you see Hathaway and Blunt’s character’s friendship deepen. This second film has more plot elements as they address real industrial concerns both in the world of fashion and in the world of journalism.
The film opens in Manhattan, where we see Anne Hathaway’s character walking into an awards ceremony in the middle of the day, having become a respected journalist. From the very first scene, viewers are treated to little easter eggs sprinkled throughout the film for those who have seen the first one more than a few times (count me among you). Go back to that first scene in the film – Hathaway’s character looks at the street/park vendor’s clothes in the park, she uses the western-style belts, which she worked with in Runway magazine and especially with Miranda (Streep), and in one particular scene studies cerulean blue.
Cerulean blue features prominently in Anne Hathaway’s character’s costume in the final scene. Without giving anything, you will immediately recognize the hint. Molly Rogers talked about how this outfit was never up for debate; It was a ‘put in’ decision and involved a specific sweater vest choice. It will bring a smile.
The Devil Wars Part 2 Extracts each of the four main characters. It is richer in settings than the first film, as they had a bigger budget. And to get back to the point about each character and the depth of our understanding of them: In an interview with Meryl Streep, she sat down with three other cast members. While I appreciated this addition of the strip to the audio version of the podcast episode as well as sharing a few more tidbits and insights about the film while talking a little more about it, it’s worth seeing on a big screen if you’re not going to the theater to see it. The film will begin streaming on Disney Plus and Hulu in late August or early September.
