If you’ve ever dreamed of traveling to France or have traveled to France and wanted to know how to navigate the many flea markets, antique fairs and markets, a new book has been written for you. Sharon Santoni, Founder My French country home – blogs, magazines, travel itineraries and seasonal boxes full of treasures, in search of the treasures of France and mostly in the wee hours of the morning. The mother of four, now a self-described empty-nester, she and her husband had to furnish their house, and so they went to French brochant to do so. Thus began an adventure and a passion for French antiques.

In our conversation, Sharon will share how her introduction to this wonderful world of treasures and French history began, who guided her and welcomed her into the community of dealers who find herself at various markets and fairs throughout the calendar year, and she will generously learn more about where to go, what to look for and how to contact dealers. He’ll also share what the true test of a good buy is when it comes to buying antiques and how to hone your eye, taste and judgment so you can feel confident with your choices.

With all that said, we talk about the actual experience of being at an antiques fair and a handful in particular and what you’ll discover. And if you’ve ever wanted to know how to prepare yourself for a successful trip, he offers wisdom that he likens to visiting a French farmers’ market. As he did, I couldn’t help but see how this approach works so well in living a fulfilled life. Ahh, the French, are really wise in the art of everyday living. 🙂

Included in this post are some of the photos you’ll find in the book. And speaking of the book, it is filled with pictures of all kinds of antiques. Each chapter centers around one type of antique – teaching you more about it, the design period, details of craftsmanship to look for, as well as experts in this particular antique field and advice on how to enjoy yourself as well as find treasures to love. As Sharon shared in this episode, this book is meant to be an introduction, and not overwhelming, but a comprehensive book that leaves you feeling prepared and thus more interested in visiting an antique fair or brocante or antique shop the next time you visit France. He’ll even share with you his recommendations for what to do if it’s your first time visiting the Chinar Hall (activity, buying antiques and bric-a-brac – he talks about this term in the introduction to our conversation).

I welcome you to tune in and listen to our conversation, and rest assured, we’ll end with a petit plaisir, and this time, it’s a Sharon Santoni favorite.
