Ask a motivational guru peddling anxiety as a solution to everything, and he’ll tell you that, every morning, you should jump into an electrified pool full of sharks, punch six of them in the nose before eating the seventh for breakfast, and then ask 200 venture capitalists for $10 million each. Refusal, baby! It’s what makes the world round!

no stop Struggle isn’t the only way you can growand, in fact, Comfort zone is where work is done. Most of the time, discomfort must be carefully calibrated to produce its best-possible effect. Like too much Nutella on a piece of toast — and yes, there is such a thing — more suffering doesn’t automatically lead to more progress.
For the first nine months of 2023, working on the Four Minute Book was relaxing. I was putting in serious hours, but I knew right What I was doing: Publish more pieces to get more traffic to the website. That’s it. That was the plan. every monthI checked off Box after box in TrelloPublishing new posts, and tracking my stats as I went. Is the job still a lot of work? Was it boring at times? Was it challenging to write the best piece I could possibly write each time and do it in a creative way? Of course, of course, of course! But it was the right kind of discomfort.
Then, in October, Google updated its magic formula, and my traffic went down the tube. Now, I’m stuck throwing darts in the dark, trying to guess what’s wrong and fix it, all the while thinking things through and pursuing alternative solutions. It’s also discomfort, but it’s discomfort I could do without. When you’re thrown into a sink-or-swim situation, you’re by definition struggling to stay afloat. how can it be Your best performance?
Sometimes, a serious challenge will indeed bring out new sides of you and make you a stronger person – but far from it. only Ways to be a strong person and rarely the way to achieve your dreams. This route is usually a long, winding one and when going into a remote country it may initially point you to it, once you on That way, all you have to do is keep your feet moving and your eyes fixed on the target.
My new situation forced me to look at my website from a new angle. This made me ask, “Can I generate traffic from other sources? Can I better monetize what I already have?” It’s certainly not without benefits, but there is no clear path to success. No guaranteed results, waiting to be collected as rewards Long hours of hard, focused work. The environment is turbulent, and the possibility of getting everything back on track? Who’s to say?
Previously, I identified a reliable connection: more posts, more traffic, more money I had a specific traffic goal in mind and was clear about the discomfort I would have to endure to get there. Given the choice, I’ll take the latter over the former any day. As long as you care about the goal, transparent discomfort is much easier to work with than opaque discomfort. you want see The dip you’re getting intoJust go down the hill and hope you don’t fall.
It’s true that discomfort is an essential component of both happiness and success, but it’s a more complex component than we usually make it out to be. Dose your discomfort properly, and choose the right type whenever you can. There’s no reward for punching a shark, but if you keep swimming the right way, maybe one day you’ll find out. The magical island you are looking for.
