With billions of people in this world, do you still feel alone? Many do, and loneliness can be crippling and paralyzing in ways that can affect your daily life.

If you’re looking for surefire signs of loneliness, here are 14 to watch out for.

1. Hang out with horrible people

Loners tend to hang out with others even when they are treated terribly. More than the fear of being alone, loneliness can make you feel desperate for friends.

Having toxic friends is worse than having no friends at all. When you cut out toxic friends, you make room for new friends who truly care for you.

2. Can’t stop talking

People who are often alone become talkative when they get a chance to chat with others. When you’re with people who listen to you, especially after spending so much time alone, you treasure those moments so much that you don’t want them to stop.

It can also be a symptom of more serious mental health problems, including anxiety and depression. You can talk to a qualified therapist for a more accurate assessment.

3. Begins to withdraw from people

When you feel lonely, you start withdrawing from everyone, even your family and friends. Self-isolation can be caused by low self-esteem and social anxiety. In isolation, you don’t have to live up to other people’s expectations and judgments. While this can provide some relief, physical distance from other people can make your loneliness worse.

It’s okay to spend time alone, but don’t let yourself get used to it. Have the courage to talk to others and reach out to people you trust.

A loner can be attention-seeking, especially when it comes to social media. You can show them a flood of answers in a reddit thread or watch other people trawl to get a response from them. The bitter truth is that negative attention is better than no attention at all for lonely people.

Being a workaholic is one of the symptoms of loneliness. Hard work can achieve both whether you’re just looking for a distraction from your lonely life or waiting for praise from your boss.

When one is lonely, being around crowds can be uncomfortable. Imagine being surrounded by people when you don’t want to associate with anyone in the first place.

They just want to smile and nod along as they feel involved. But you will often find them in the corner of the room or trying to lose themselves in a book or game.

Since some lonely people rarely leave their homes, they often dress up, even if they have to run errands. It’s like a once-in-a-blue-moon situation for them that they make sure to make the most out of the adventure.

Self-talk is common for many people and can even be effective against mental health issues like anxiety and trauma. Lonely people also engage in self-talk and even converse with their pets to feel some sort of connection.

If it can help them feel better, there’s nothing wrong with engaging in self-talk as long as you feel positive and emotionally motivated.

Single people are more active online because it provides the minimum connection they need without draining their social batteries. They post random and meaningless things on their social media feeds and even randomly comment on other people’s posts. And whenever they go out, they tend to post so many stories that they are somehow social.
