my dear son,
i amThe blunt will start because that’s how the truth comes out. It doesn’t knock. It’s already standing there, taking over the room, waiting for you to stop pretending not to notice it. The truth is this. You will injure yourself more times than the world will. You replay your failures with devotion. You keep a record of your mistakes with the care of an archivist. You will punish yourself long after the moment has passed, long after the evidence has cooled, long after the verdict has lost its meaning. And you call this obedience truth, when it is only habit.
Forgiveness is not an event. It is a habit, dull and repetitive, like breathing. Miss it for too long and the body starts to ache. Completely rejected and the mind becomes a closed room without a window.
I am writing to you from inside that room, learning how hard it is to leave.
Forgiveness is not something you take for granted when you feel generous. It’s something you do because you can’t contain the poison. Hold it long enough and it starts to feel like part of you. You have confused pain with identity. You tell me who this pain is. You protect it. You protect it. You polish it. And one day you will realize that you mistook patience for a virtue.
You forgive yourself not because you are innocent, but because you want to live.
I have seen men age without getting old. Their bodies move on but their minds dwell on a single failure, a single betrayal, a single sentence badly spoken and never corrected. They live there. They eat there. They sleep there. They call it memory, but it is confinement.
You will be told that time heals. it’s wrong Time is indifferent. You pass it either cured or not. What heals is repetition. What heals is the willingness to return to the same wound without adding another complaint.
Forgiving yourself once will not be enough. It will feel inadequate because it is. The mind does not agree with one gesture. It needs proof. This requires consistency. It should show you again tomorrow and say the same thing. I’m still here. I’m not giving up on myself. I’m not adding to the damage.
It is not a dramatic work. It’s cool. It’s boring. It would seem ungrateful. You’ll forget you’re doing it until one day the weight is light and you can’t tell when it happened.
You will also be told that forgiving others is noble. It makes you generous. It proves that you are evolved. Ignore this language. It is decorative and unhelpful. Forgiveness is not about liberating them. It’s about your redemption.
Some people will never understand the damage they have done. Some will understand and remain unchanged. Some apologize with precision and still don’t mend what’s broken. None of this changes the equation. You forgive others because it is too expensive to carry them inside you.
Peace is no prize. It is a necessity.
I was raised Catholic so I can speak clearly about guilt. Guilt is not knowledge. It is not the depth of your understanding. It does not refine your character. This is a signal that has outlived its usefulness. Like an alarm that goes on after the fire is out, it exhausts rather than protects.
You will feel responsible for what you cannot control. You blame yourself for the outcome shaped by the fear, immaturity or ignorance that everyone involved had. You will punish your present self for your past limitations, as if knowledge comes before experience.
It is unfair.
Forgiving yourself is not denial. It is not forgotten. It is not a revision. It is recognition without cruelty. It’s saying yes, it happened, and no, I’m not going to beat myself up about it.
There will come a day when forgiveness feels like a lie. Whatever happened in those days. The truth doesn’t always feel sincere at first. The body constantly lags behind. This is normal. continue
Forgiving others follows the same rhythm. You resist it because anger feels active. It feels like energy. It feels like control. Actually it is maintenance. It requires constant attention. It drains you while promising protection.
I’ve held onto anger long enough to know it doesn’t protect the heart. It tightens. It does not preserve dignity. Compress it. It does not respect the wound. It repeats.
Forgiveness does not make what happened acceptable. This makes it worth living.
There is a misconception that forgiving means inviting harm again. it’s wrong Forgiveness and boundaries are not opposites. You can forgive and still leave. You can forgive and still deny access. You can forgive and never speak again. Forgiveness changes what lives inside you. It doesn’t dictate what you allow around you.
Don’t confuse peace with inaction.
You deserve a life that isn’t affected by painful workouts. Don’t be burdened by yesterday’s complaints that you deserve in the morning. You deserve sleep that isn’t interrupted by arguments you’ll never win.
It is not indulgence. It is hygiene.
I am not asking you to forgive everything today. I’m telling you to start. Start small. Start with what still stings but no longer defines you. Start with the moment you replay when the room is quiet. name Then leave without comment.
When the mind comes back to it, and it does, it will repeat this action. There is no speech. No discussion. The easy act of letting go again.
Forgive yourself for needing to do this more than once. Forgive yourself for needing to do this a thousand times. There is no final certificate. There is only practice.
Forgive others when you notice their presence is rent-free in your thoughts. Forgive them not out of kindness, but out of necessity. You do not have to dispose of them. You must regain your focus.
Peace is not dramatic. It doesn’t declare itself. Silence comes when noise is reduced. You may not recognize it at first. That’s all right. stay with
If I leave you anything, let it be. Forgiveness is not about who was right. About who gets rest.
I want to give you rest. I want you unburdened. I want you to be free enough to live forward, not backward.
That’s why I’m telling you now. Again, again, and again, as often as it takes.
