Our past experiences play a role in what we imagine will happen in the future.

Let’s take clothing as our example. If your experience when wearing a sweater has always been one that makes you itchy and thus uncomfortable, if you haven’t challenged the self-imposed truth that all sweaters, because they are sweaters, make you itchy, then when you see a sweater, you assume it is itchy. However, as we know, construction – the type of material and how it is made will determine how you react to it.

I can remember years as a young woman thinking that all sweaters were itchy, and so I wouldn’t buy sweaters anymore, even if it meant doing so for the time of year. up to . . I wore a sweater made of high quality cashmere for the first time. Yes, I have sensitive skin, but my skin didn’t itch once while wearing this sweater. It felt smooth as silk. I wanted to wear it to bed and never take it off. It was absolutely a dream I never imagined. And it would never have been felt if I hadn’t planted the seed of possibility that all sweaters don’t itch. I have planted the seeds of possibility that I envisioned and hoped for! will be possible

The new people you meet, the new situations you enter, what seeds are you planting about the world’s tomorrow? Although what we sow today may not sprout immediately, if we keep watering it, if we sow the same seeds—of kindness, of mercy instead of mistrust and condemnation—we will eventually find what we planted. It may sprout as something we never imagined or in a way that never crossed our mind, but the seed you sow and witness begins with the mind. What is your purpose? How do you want to engage with the world? What do you hope to engage with in the world?

Over time, after intentionally sowing the seed of emotion that heals us, that calms us, it becomes a default, just as negativity can become a default as a defense mechanism from being hurt. Meditation gives us a safe place to practice cultivating a nurturing mindset, and over time, it will become where our mind rests and thus how it engages with the world outside of our meditation practice.

Let’s begin. . .
