Recent high-level arrests or criminal convictions in other countries have illuminated a strange, alarming reality: The United States is almost alone among the world’s “democratic” nations in not being able – or willing – to go after and convict high-profile criminals.
The former “Leader of the Free World” has sunk to the level of authoritarian dictatorships both past and present in his ventures Squash high level Accountability through constant deflection, delay and denial. (Not coincidentally, these tactics are also the “3Ds” that Trump embraces and lives by.)
This article explores what other countries are doing about such criminals and contrasts their efforts with those of the United States no to do
Great Britain, ex Prince Andrew and the Epstein file
Take, for example, the seriousness with which Great Britain responded to the information and allegations made public following the release of the Epstein files. Last week, the world learned that the former Prince Andrew – who had already been booted from his “prince-hood” due to previous sexual harassment and abuse revealed in the Epstein files – was actually arrested Doubtful, perhaps due to the treasonous activities associated with Epstein. He is the first British royal to be charged with a crime in more than 400 years.
In response, King Charles made it clear to the royal family will not interfere Or try to protect Andrew. He confirmed that “The law must take its course“
Elsewhere in Europe, several high-profile politicians and CEOs resigned from their posts after the Epstein files were released. In the US, some corporate types have resigned — but no politicians have owned anything, let alone resigned. Not even one. And Resident Trump (I refuse to call him our president), despite being plastered all over the Epstein files, is still avoiding any accountability — with a lot of cynical, delusional help from the GOP-controlled Congress.
This is both undesirable and deeply unfair.
Brazil Convicts Bolsonaro While Trump… Re-Elected!
Next, let’s consider the contrasting ways in which the United States and Brazil deal with top-level treason and insurgency. US famous (or infamous?) impeachment but rejection guilty After Trump January 6, 2021, riots at the US Capitol. For a brief period, perhaps a few weeks, even loyal GOP politicians strongly condemned Trump’s despicable actions and provocations that day.
But soon, the GOP reversed course and refused to condemn Trump’s speech and behavior on that dark day. From that point on, the GOP has downplayed and twisted the truth of what happened, to the point that many MAGA loyalists insist that the riot — in which people were killed, the Capitol vandalized, and many Capitol Police officers brutally attacked — was merely a “peaceful protest” or even a “love fest”!
One of Trump’s first steps once he returns to office on January 20, 2025, is to close this shameful episode in US history. Pardon all those who rioted on January 6 — more than 1,500 of them! His blanket pardon included several traitors and rebels who had been convicted of seditious conspiracy.
Now, in Brazil. There, former President Bolsonaro followed Trump’s playbook and incited an uprising in January 2023, attempting to overturn the election he had recently lost. Subsequently, he was arrested in 2024, briefly detained and finally convicted in September 2025. Convicted on five chargesincluding an attempted coup and the violent overthrow of the rule of law. Four of the Supreme Court’s five justices voted to convict him.
But in the US, Trump continues to avoid serious consequences for his treasonous actions. Instead, he and the GOP whitewashed the January 6 uprising with Trump’s direct involvement and instigation. To make matters worse, in 2024, Trump again The GOP’s elect became a presidential candidate – and then won the election!
Again, this is absurd and deeply unfair. Yet, in a stunning display of vindictive bravado … last year, Trump loudly declared his full support for Bolsonaro, condemned Brazil and wanted to use sky-high (50%) tariffs. Punish Brazil To accuse and convict him!
Former South Korean president sentenced to life in prison
Finally, there is the latest news from South Korea. That nation only Convicted its former presidentEun Suk Yeol, of the rebellion and illegally imposed martial law in late 2024, to try to silence and sideline the opposition. He was removed from office on December 14, 2024 after being impeached by lawmakers; He was formally removed by the Constitutional Court in April 2025.
Yoon had just been sentenced to life in prison. Five other treasonous officials, including former Defense Minister Kim Yong Hyun, received long prison terms. In today’s United States, however, we have done nothing equivalent or even similar. nothing, nothing Since Nixon’s time in the 70’s, many deplorable (yes, I used “that word”) events/patterns have been uncovered. Most notably, we witnessed Trump’s endless, confusing “fraud” accusations, his continued undermining of public trust in the US electoral system, and the January 6 uprising.
In all these cases, severe punishment and/or banishment from politics was deserved. Instead, Trump was protected and rewarded — and constantly coddled and shielded.
Once again, the United States has been shown and shamed by yet another “lesser” democracy.
US is now a giant, anti-democratic ‘security racket’
What can we conclude from this litany of foreign successes and ongoing US ones? failure? It is becoming increasingly clear that the United States no”A land of the free, no it provides “liberty and justice for all”. (Though we can reasonably say that the US is a ‘free country to loot and lie’).
The United States has shown itself to be a pseudo-democracy that is much more than a plutocracy and oligarchy—where the rich and powerful are entrenched, coddled, and protected.
Despite our “separation of powers” and (formerly) strong judicial system, today’s United States has proven to be singularly unable – or unwilling – to pursue, prosecute and convict high-profile criminals. especially the top Politicians are quick to praise and affirm the “rule of law” in the United States, but our laws don’t seem to apply to the rich and powerful. And they don’t apply specifically to residential trumps.
Here is a shining example. A recent NPR story stated that many pages of the Epstein file implicating Trump were deliberately withheld by the DOJ, despite claims that “everything” was made public. the article According to a woman who alleged sexual assault at the hands of Trump,
A woman who named Trump directly in her abuse allegation claimed that around 1983, when she was about 13 years old, Epstein introduced her to Trump “who then put his head on her exposed penis, which she then bit. In response, Trump punched her in the head and knocked her out.”
A. Where is the anger? where is justice?!
Two-tiered justice
In truth, the United States seems completely “stuck” in a flawed, two-tier justice system, where laws, rules, and “watchdogs” apply to the non-wealthy, marginalized majority, while a small minority – the rich and powerful – can do whatever they want (however immoral or illegal) with little fear of accountability or consequences.
We could even say that the US has turned into a totally corrupt, giant “protection racket”. Today, a small minority of lawless criminals operate with almost complete impunity. Meanwhile, the vast majority are spewing, and sometimes loud, ineffective protests that (mostly) go nowhere.
The sick, sad truth is: Today’s United States is a Complete failure To ensure equal, strong and timely justice all — including the rich, famous and powerful. The United States has become a dishonorable and pathetic laughingstock on the world stage.
