Isolation destroys security. Use the “Call Five People” rule to break down your silos.
When you lead in isolation
- Perception is narrowed.
- Judgment is dull.
- Mistakes abound.
- The effect is shrinking.
- Doubts spread.
- Pride is strong.
- Failure compounds.
rules
Spend 10 minutes with five different people.
Explain the situation.
Say, “My current thoughts are…”
Ask questions like…
- What comes to your mind after hearing it?
- What am I overlooking?
- If you were me, your first move would be tomorrow morning…?
- If I fail, what do I undo?
- What to do first?
When call five people
#1 You’ve circled the same problem for 48 hours. When you’re confused, talk to five people who trust you.
#2 Wonder how you are. Name five people who have done it.
#3. You are second guessing. Connect with five people who know your strengths.
#4. You are at a crossroads. Talk to people who ask great questions.
#5. The deadline for a big decision is pressing. What if I ask something?
#6. A high-stakes conversation is around the corner. Look for great relationship builders.
#7. You have earned a promotion. Ask, “What is the key to success in the next 90 days?”

- Doer: Someone who always finishes what they start.
- The Filler: An empath who feels what others feel.
